Free meals and rides to work will be available for nurses again this Christmas as part of an annual festive offer from Uber.
The initiative is available to all NHS staff across England, Scotland and Wales and Health and Social Care (HSC) staff in Northern Ireland.
“NHS doctors, nurses and support staff deserve a helping hand this Christmas”
As part of the offer, staff will be able to claim two £10 Uber trips to get to and from work over the Christmas period and one free £10 meal through Uber Eats.
Uber said it would commit to 200,000 free rides to those eligible and more than 80,000 meals between 23-27 December.
The Christmas offers follow a similar initiative announced during the first peak of the pandemic earlier this year.
Jamie Heywood, Uber’s regional general manager for Northern and Eastern Europe, said: “More than ever before, we owe the NHS a debt of gratitude.
“NHS doctors, nurses and support staff deserve a helping hand this Christmas especially during times when travel may be difficult, and services are reduced.”
Meanwhile, health and social care secretary Matt Hancock said: “Everyone has a role to play in our national effort to help the NHS tackle coronavirus, so it’s great to see Uber is again offering meals and trips to work for our brilliant NHS staff, as well as discounted trips for care home staff.
“Our heroic health and social care staff are on the frontline in the battle against this virus, and I have been overwhelmed by how the whole country has come together to support them.”
To be eligible for the offer staff must ensure their Uber account is linked to their NHS or HSC email address by 20 December.
This year, Uber is also encouraging the public to thank health and care staff on social media using #GratefulUK.
NHS and care home staff in England and Wales also had access to discounted rides until the end of 2020 through the Uber Medics service, the company added.
