NICE has issued rapid clinical guidance on community-based care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease during the coronavirus pandemic
This rapid clinical guideline from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) aims to help health and care professionals to maximise the safety of patients chronic obstructive pulmonary disease during the coronavirus pandemic. It also includes recommendations on protecting staff from infection.
Subjects covered in the guidance include:
- Communicating with patients and minimising risk – both for those not known to have Covid-19 and those with known or suspected Covid-19;
- Treatment and care planning, focusing on corticosteroids, self-management for exacerbations, smoking cessation, pulmonary rehabilitation, oxygen, oral prophylactic therapy and airway clearance;
- Modifications to usual care.
